The focal point of the area is Rainbow Springs, formerly known as Blue Spring, a first-magnitude artesian spring. The spring formation is the fourth-largest in Florida, and spews out over 490 million gallons of freshwater every day. Rainbow Springs forms the headwaters of the Rainbow River, which flows into the Withlacoochee River. There is even a private beach on the Rainbow River for residents to use. |
The entire Rainbow River was designated as a Registered Natural Landmark in 1972, an Aquatic Preserve in 1986, and an "Outstanding Florida Waterway" in 1987. In 1990 the land around the headwaters of the springs was purchased by the State of Florida to save it from development and creating the Rainbow Springs State Park. The Rainbow Springs swimming area is popular summer destination within the Rainbow Springs State Park. |

Canoes and kayaks can be rented at the headsprings. A gift shop, snack bar and visitor center is also on site. The picnic pavilions are often reserved by families for weddings, reunions and gatherings. |
The newly opened Rainbow Springs Club is available for use by the residents of the community. It features a community swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, Bache ball, pickleball, billiards, horseshoes, and a 9-hole Frisbee disk golf course.
